Oohh, I have a couple sources to share. For roleplay/historical fanfic purposes, I often refer to the following in regards to England:

http://www.bl.uk/ - The British Library website. I just noticed that you can read PDFs of British newspapers published between 1800 and 1900 and I'm kind of addicted to poking through those at the moment (/nerd). Seriously, if you look around enough, you can find tons of stuff on library websites.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ - This one's probably my favorite because it's organized and super-easy to navigate. Articles, historical maps, timelines... you name it. (And if you're in Britain, you can stream videos, too.)

Also, this is where I give my obligatory "hey don't forget your public/school/university library!" note. Books are awesome, too. I've borrowed and bought several in order to learn more for roleplay. 8D

I think it would be cool if we had some discussion. Reading groups are a great idea, too. I'm sure there's a lot you can do...

oh yes lots, but it requires a groundswell of enthusiasm. I'm hoping that in a group of over 1k there'd be a nice number of people who are into this sort of thing.

If the response is muted, then this is probably not the right place.

Historical accuracy is the best!
The site and book I know are mostly in French, but in English I mostly follow this one : http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qykl/episodes/player
Not all the subjects deal with history, but a good part. Beside, it's easily understandable for non English native speakers.

And I approove this idea of discussion group!

Could you link/mention the French sites and books too for those of us who speak some French but probably not enough to find good French resources easily? ^^; Please~? I'd love to get something from both sides (plus who knows, books might have been translated in English?)

Well I mostly use Wiki and university books or even magazines or documentaries
And for books, god, I don't even know where to begin cause I just search in my uni library or use my course notes, or ... I have to make a list :/

I haven't read it (yet!), but ever since the moment I found out this book existed, I've been dying to get it. I'll definitely read it this summer when I have more time. (Bonus: The book is written by a husband and wife team-- the husband English, the wife French-- so it is literally a labor of love.)

Mostly I use textbooks for research. I'm taking a British history class this semester, and obviously there are a lot of FrUK moments. I'm writing my honors research paper on the Seven Years' War, so my obsession is useful here...I guess.

I read the Scarlet Pimpernel last year, and tried to do a crossover.:P (It's pretty much the longest thing I've ever written for this fandom.)

Oh, and yes to all your ideas!

I'd love to have a discussion group where we can all read FrUK-y books and totally geek out.:D

my ideas are actually all very vague.

but yay for people who want to read fruk-y books

I don't know how big that list is, or what would count? because fics might just be mainly telling the english side, or mainly the french side?

actually it might only be tenuously linked as it were, to french vs englishness.

I guess books about them fighting each other would be most significant. - historical battles, whatnot.

Anyone else have suggestions?
