Soo excited!

I have been lurking in the background of this community for...well, ages actually. I have a 6.5-litre crock-pot (I think. Oh, and I'm from England so please bear with me and my strange measurements / spellings!) and it was pretty impractical for cooking for me so I hardly ever bothered.

I recently treated myself however and bought a new 3.5-litre ( Read more... )

The easiest recipe I make is "chicken-with-sauce":

Chicken pieces (I like thighs, skin removed, but any pieces are ok)
1 jar tomato-based spaghetti sauce

1. Put your chicken pieces in the crockpot. (Optional - brown them in a pan first.)
2. Empty your jar of sauce over the chicken.
3. Cover the crockpot and cook on low all day.
4. Serve with rice, pasta, bread, or whatever. Salad on the side. Glass of wine - yum.

You can doctor this however you like - add herbs, garlic, mushrooms, wine, etc. to taste. Alternatively, pour the herbs, garlic, mushrooms & wine over the chicken without using tomato sauce at all, and it's a completely different, equally tasty dish.

What benbenberi says. You can use pretty much any sauce - a tomato sauce, Indian sauce, salsa, you name it ( ... )

That's brilliant, thanks. Especially thanks for the bit about the meat - I'd have just carried on getting what I normally do! :)

Whole chicken 'roasted' in the slow cooker. englishlady78 February 17 2010, 14:04:20 UTC
This is a favourite of mine. I bung a few carrots, a roughly quatered onion and a few sticks of celery (if I have it) in the bottom of my crock pot then I plop a chicken on top (you'll have to make sure you get one that'll fit!) then I switch it on low and leave it to cook for around 5-6 hours (my pot is quite hot) and when it's served the meat falls off the bones and is amazingly tender. You can stuff half a lemon in side the chicken too for a subtle lemony flavour ( ... )

Ooh, fried rice. Mmmm. Thanks also for the recipe - would save me a lot of time trying to do it in the oven and getting confused on timings etc! :)
