I've been toying with the idea of doing mac'n'cheese in the crock. it sounds soooooooooooo yummy! But i'm a little afraid of leaving pasta, cooked or uncooked, in the crock for 5-6 hours.

it really doesn't turn to mush?

Same here. The recipe I used was the Paula Dean one.

This is from the 365 blog. I have not made it, but I would trust her recipes enough to atleast try it.

I've made it. The cheese became strangely, unappetizingly, oddly sharp - it had SUCH an odd taste, I couldn't pinpoint it.

i'd consider making the cheese sauce in the crock for a few hours with a little bit of extra liquid, and then putting the dry pasta in for 1/2 hour or so at the end so it absorbs the liquid in the sauce and doesn't get mushy. i made a crock beef & pasta this weekend like that, and it turned out great.

I used this recipe. http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/06/crockpot-macaroni-and-cheese-recipe.html

It was a little mushy. I wonder if maybe the type of noodles she uses just turn out better in the crock pot, because my experience with noodles and crock pots has not been good so far. :/

I've made the Paula Deen one on the foodnetwork website and it turned out pretty good. Sort of odd since it had eggs in it, which I'm not used to, but good flavor and not bad texture.

macaroni was pre-cooked and was only in the crock 3 hours
