gravy?

I made sticky chicken last night - added in some onions - had a nice 'broth' when I got home which I tried to make gravy from ( Read more... )

I'm sorry about the gravy. Nice icon, by the way, YUM.

I always make a roux first and not make the gravy in the crockpot - just transfer the broth to a bowl and slowly add the roux, whisking like hell. Then you may need to spice it up some more if the flour has diminshed the flavor at all.

What exactly was wrong with it?

Oops, I meant transfer the broth to a "saucepan".

I did have it in a sauce pan - maybe I should have made a traditional roux first.

Oh well, at least the chicken was good!

Sadly, I only get good results when I put the broth in a pan on the stovetop . . . and I use cornstarch

yea, I think my 'grand experiment' proved that I just need to stick with my normal way of making gravy.

You have to cook the flour in a roux to get rid of the icky taste. You could try maybe cooking the roux in a frying pan and then adding it to the broth in the crock? Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it ... you have to get the roux and broth to a fairly high heating point to get it to thicken properly.

lol - I think 'goo' is a nicer term then what I had!!

Yeah, next time I'll just make my normal roux/broth gravy.
