We agree on this point- it's unAmerican to denounce anyone's right to build a house of worship wherever zoning laws permit.

The people complaining about the mosque make me very, very angry.

And while you're correct in your quotation of Deuteronomy, I would caution against using it as the foundation of an argument against Christians as a whole. Christ came to fulfill the covenant, according to His words in the New Testament, and as such the rules laid down in Deut. no longer apply for followers of Jeshua bin Yusuf alNaz'reth.

The rest of that debate is better saved for another day. For now, let 'em build the mosque. On that we agree.

I should probably point out that points of religious dogma are unlikely to be considered seriously by an atheist.

Here's what bothers me about that: if Christ fulfilled the covenant and the Old Testament rules no longer apply, why are they still included in the official Christian holy scriptures, and why do so many Christians take them so seriously?

And then there's this response. http://www.mediaite.com/tv/greg-gutfield-to-open-a-gay-bar-next-to-ground-zero-mosque-to-cater-to-islamic-gay-men/

At least it's a more creative way to protest. But a mosque and a gay bar next to each other? The right wing terrorists are going to have to split their vandalism nights.

Hmmm. I'm torn.

On the one hand, guy wants to serve an underrepresented group, so hey, go for it!

On the other hand, doing it specifically to piss off the folks building the mosque? Feels kind of dickish. Plus, Muslims don't drink, so is it going to be a *juice* bar? Guess I ought to read the article...

Build both of 'em, though, tell everybody to play nice with each other, and see how it turns out. That's the American way.
