This month's museum blog entry about the Ur project covers the idea of a 'standard house' at the site in the Old Babylonian Period. In fact, there is a lot of debate about just what the 'ideal house' was. There is a good deal of difficulty in reconstructing a house above the remains that still exist. Just how high was the roof? I love reading about all the things you are discovering and deciphering. It really brings it to life so excitingly. Thank you for sharing it all with the rest of us.

I am off to Orkney again this Summer and I just can't wait to see how much further they have got in the excavation of the Ness of Brodgar since I was there last. It is neolithic, but later than Ur - I find it completely fascinating how different countries were at such radically different levels of development at the same chronological time.

Thanks for following my updates on Ur and especially for letting me know you enjoy them. It shows me that there's a point to posting.

And Orkney sounds great. I've been fairly far north in Scotland, but never up to the islands. I hope things go well there and that the excavations proceed smoothly.
