Mod Post: Tomorrow, the Games Begin!

Feb 26, 2009 21:32

(Make sure to read the ETA at the bottom.)

Right, this is the second of your friendly neighborhood mods informing you that tomorrow at 9 AM EST, the writing challenge BEGINS.

At that time, I'll post up the daily word-count post. This will be a basic post just saying "HEY SPARTA, a new day has dawned and with it, a new 500 words must go forth to...vanquish the enemy! Yes. Or just be pretty sparkly words. Whatever, Spartans, 500 words by 9 AM EST tomorrow, or I boot a kitten down a well. B| "

When you've written your 500 (or more) words, just comment to the word-count post with your word-count and whatever you feel like sayin' about it. If you've posted the results up somewhere in a journal, this comment is the place to put the link, too. You've got 24 hours from 9 AM EST, each day and every day, for a month. That is, until Mar. 31st. And remember, the writing can be about anything. It doesn't have to be continuous. If you want to write 500 words' worth of haiku one day, the Spartans will admire your fortitude and salute your syllable-counting efforts. It's all about the 500.

...There will be no reward for your daily accomplishment, except the glory of knowing that you have served your WRITERLY AMBITIONS ARRRR WRITING well and stood beside your pen-wielding partners in FULL HONOR AND SHININESS.

Neither will there be any punishment if you fail. Except maybe some light ribbing and sympathies from your STALWART compatriots. You know your worth, Spartans! Live up to it and be SPARTY.

Because Athens is known for its writers and arts and humanities and Sparta has to represent. It needs some writers. I mean, look at 300. Really. It NEEDS some writers.

Also, you're allowed to make posts of your own in this comm, too, chatting, trading writing prompts...as long as you keep it to the subject of the comm (arrwritingarr), then you're good. LJ-cut if you've got any doubts about length, our flists will love you for it. And don't post links to your writing as separate posts; those go in the word-count posts. Keeps things organized and tidy.

SHARPEN YER PENS, DAMMIT.

ETA: AND OH YEAH. COMMENT TO THIS ENTRY IF YOU'RE IN FOR THE LONG HAUL, SPARTADOWNDILLIANS. If you're not, then unjoin the community and hop on over to watch mode. If you decide you want to join in, you've got until Friday next (Mar. 6) to throw your hat in the ring. After that, the ranks are closed and the brave...twelve-ish or however many we be march forth unto the end of the month without reinforcements.

word count: round 1
