Burning Man was amazing on all levels. Pictures, movies, stories could only tell so much - one simply has to be there to experience everything. It is not recommended for everyone, though - one has to have an open mind as many unusual experiences happen here:

I've never been, but I can tell that it is definitely not for me. To me it feels like a twisted, inverted, alternate reality in which I would go insane. I think that the concentration of creative output in one week by many people who are not necessarily naturally creative in their every day life would be completely toxic for me. I think I see and experience every day life in the way that other people see and experience Burning Man. For me it would be a complete sensory, emotional, social and visual overload. I also think it would bore me to death.

(sorry to leave this hefty comment here, but your post suddenly inspired a condensed evaluation of my opinions abut BM) :)

I think you have to see it with your own eyes to judge. Many very famous artists and architects create BM installations and I was very much moved by many creations there.

The experience is quite overwhelming, so someone could go crazy, so don't judge until you experience this, but don't go if you think it's not for you...
