Getting up on my soapbox here...

I'm looking forward to picking up my copy of TTT tonight. And parking myself on the couch for several hours. And squeeing like the fangirl I am. And loving every second of what makes this fandom great ( Read more... )

Amen, lady. Friggin' ridiculous. I respect those in the fandom that remain fence-sitters because they don't want to be involved--but I can't imagine being one of those silent voices myself. Tinhats and their canon are a problem and there needs to be some kind of response to the venom they spew.

It's a pity the courts can't hand out jail time for malicious damage to a person's reputation anymore.

Yep - they might think twice before they start up. It's a systematic attempt to trash his reputation, and by extension Elijah, Dom's and everyone else's. I just hope that no one in the cast is aware of the talk, and that they never find out.

Well, that's the thing. I tried to be a fence-sitter for a long time, too. But it's one thing to analyze photographs and read "body language" and speculate on whether friendship is more than what it appears, and a whole other thing to consistently trash one member of the cast simply because he's friends with one member of the sacred pair, and therefore a "threat" to the relationship. I don't understand how people can remain silent in the face of remarks like that, and pretend they don't exist, because they do. To whine and say people are wanking because of the whole DomLijah thing is missing the point entirely. I honestly can't figure out just what it is that Sean Astin ever did to earn the kind of hatred they direct his way on a regular basis. And I don't get people who laugh it off as meaningless.

The latest posts at DLR talk about him forcing Christine to become pregnant just to increase his chances of winning an Oscar - that or to prove to himself that he really DOES like icky girls.

What the FUCK?? How fucking sick does someone have to be to make up such trash? I can hardly think of anyone less deserving of that kind of hatred than Sean - the guy's a freakin' teddy bear, for gods' sakes! Anyone who could spread such poison...gods, that's a sin, plain and simple.

"Fans?" Yeah, right. Like John Hinkley was a fan of Jodie Foster's. This is why I vehemently reject the label of "fan" - because of perverted whackos like this.

Well, the pregnancy rumour isn't true. But their response to it was disgusting. That he forced Christine to have another child ("gee, is he going to make her have kids into her 40's?"), that he's doing it to show the Academy and future political constituents what a great family guy he is, to prove to himself that he's a man, is it even really his, etc etc. And then they bring up the whole mother issue, bi-polarism, sexual attraction to Elijah, etc etc, and it just goes on and on, ad nauseam. Of course, they really love him. They're just concerned. It's for his own good. *retch*

"Fans" like that destroy everything, as far as I'm concerned.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that the reason they despise him is that he's so staunchly straight. I mean, the care he takes to be sure people understand how he's portraying his character in these films, and his obvious adoration of his wife, etc. He's the only one of the hobbits that seems to actually be concerned that people not think he's gay. So he's obviously "homophobic", and trying to ruin the Sacred Tryst Which Will Save the World.

Gee, could he just be unwilling to be called something, anything, he's not? Could he just be exercising his right to a say in how he's perceived? Nah, couldn't be that! He must hate gay people and be wanting to crush them wherever he finds them.

Gotta go retrieve my eyes now. I think they rolled down under my desk somewhere...

Forcing what on who?!?! Give me a freakin' break. This comes as an especially nasty slap across the face since I just finished watching his 'The Long and Short Of It' which was the sweetest short film and had the most lovely "PS: I love you, Christine." at the end of it.

The general tinhat lunacy is reprehensible but the wilful ignorance of the fencesitters or, worse, the morally superior attitudes of the clueless is downright criminal.

It's the mixture of willful ignorance and moral superiority that gets me every time. Choosing to put your fingers in your ears and securing the blindfold does not stop the poison. Only speaking up against it does.

And I LOVED The Long and the Short of it. AND the making of. Could you not feel the Sean-hate on the part of all the people who showed up to help? He must have blackmailed them or something.
