Chances are, if you're doing NaNoWriMo, you're NOT writing now.
1) If you don't do it now, you probably never will. Novel writing is mostly a "one day" event. As in "One day, I'd like to write a novel." Here's the truth: 99% of us, if left to our own devices, would never make the time to write a novel. It's just so far outside our normal lives

I've done NaNo in the past and sold the end product. I write final draft, which isn't supposed to be the 'point' of NaNo - but honstly, I can't do all that 'free writing' stuff that's *supposed* to go into a first draft. It works for some people, sure, but it doesn't work for me. Last year I didn't do it and felt twitchy - it is indeed habit-forming (like the Yuletide Treasure challenge!). This year I was going to do it, even though I broke the cardinal rules of NaNo by having a synopsis in advance. My story was going to be fanfic and November was going to be my 'holiday' month from writing original stuff. As it's turned out, RL has forced me to change my schedule. I'll still write the fic but I'll do it when I have the time. I don't have to wait until next November to give myself permission to write it.
