I am in the opposite pair of shoes; I'm a current Verizon customer, and I am waiting with baited breath for March 11, 2010, when my contract is up and I can switch to T Mobile.

Maybe it's because I'm only working part-time, but $60 a month for 450 minutes and unlimited texting seems like murder to me. I've completely had to change my phone habits because, according to my rough math, I only get about 15-20 mins of talk time per day before I start going over. For $60 a month, that doesn't seem like much to me. Verizon's free nights don't start until 9:00 PM, which, on west coast time, is way too late to call my family in Texas and talk for more than 15 minutes. I've resorted to only calling my Mom and Sis on weekends and encouraging them to text me.

If you don't mind shelling out premium dough, Verizon is a good way to go. The nationwide coverage is excellent, and you do get free Verizon-to-Verizon calling. What sucks for me is that the only other person I know who has Verizon is my ex-boyfriend. FML.

If the cost savings is high enough, it might be worth it to either port your number out from Verizon, and incur whatever early termination fee exists, or get a new plan with T-Mobile for 4 months and drop your Verizon mobile to the lowest possible rate. Especially if it'd let you call home more often, or make your phone be more flexible.
