Isn't Updike from Pennsylvania? At least, that seems to be where the bulk of the Rabbit series takes place...

He is, yeah - near Reading, I think. I was never all that fond of his work (a bit too suburban heterosexual for my taste), though The Witches of Eastwick, Roger's Version, and some of his shorter stuff is good. His best line evar: "Masturbation! Thou saving grace note upon the baffled chord of self."

I was on my way to lunch with some folks from work yesterday, and I passed David Brooks trying to decide where to have lunch. As it turned out, the restaurant I had lunch in.

This has been Brushes With Not Particularly Greatness, an ongoing saga of midtown that you too can be one degree of separation from if you freaking get in touch with a girl while you're in town.

Of course, I'm going to Detroit in a month or so.

*blush*  I'm afraid this was a bit of a flying visit, the bulk of which was spent with the in-laws in Park Slope. Alas, we only had one evening and this morning in the city (and both dinner and lunch were semi-business). But -

Wait - no - Detroit? Wha'?
