Three new species of lemur have been identified by BioMed Central. Okay, it's not like more lemurs have been discovered (what had been thought to be varieties of the same species have now been determined to be genetically different enough to rate their own species classification), but it's a reasonable excuse to post some pictures of them.

They are. And, apparently, we are more directly related to them genetically than with the simians. I haven't been able to confirm that, but I'm willing to believe it.  :)

We have 20 more similar DNA strands with lemurs than with cimpanzees...it's a fact..caught it on PBS 2 nights ago...and I remember that also being verified within a National Geographic special not too long ago as well...so yeah, there is some study been done into it...

Lemurs are cool. Besides, when it comes to primates, the suborder Haplorrhini gets way too much press (well, except for tarsiers) and the poor Strepsirrhini tend to be left out in the cold.

Is it their cold nuts against a tree that gives them that "wide-eyed" look? I imagine being naked up in a tree in freezing temps with my bare nuts up against a tree would make my eyes wide anyways...hehehehhe
