Has anyone seen the Superman Returns trailer? Evidently, Warner Brothers is trying to out-Christian The Chronicles of Narnia.

Jor-El Voiceover: Even though you have been raised as a human being, you are not one of them. They could be a great people, Kal-El, if they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all - ( Read more... )

Actually, Superman's had several slightly-different origins throughout the years... in one version, he wasn't even born yet when Krypton exploded...

I suspect that whole "Lo, I hath sent mine only Son" thing is from original dialog edited out of the first Superman movie which Bryan Singer re-used.

Yeah, I'd heard they were using old Marolon Brando Jor-El footage from the last Superman series, but apart from the lispy opening line, that doesn't sound much like Brando.

They faked a little of it too. Dead men don't say very much.

They should have made a Smallville movie instead and had Jor-El nattering on about how humans were an inferior race that Kal-El should be able to easily conquer and rule in the name of Krypton.

"Dad! Geez..."

"Jor-El..."

"What? I'm just trying to make him a Kryptonian to be proud of, damn it! By the time I was his age I'd already conquered three worlds for our empire. Three! And yet 'Superman' here... Listen to it! 'man'! It's like he thinks he's one of them! 'Superman' only wants to save people. From natural disasters! From themselves! From us!"

I'm embarrassed. As a Christian. =/

The scary thing is that by secularizing Christ is they’re putting everything the Son of God stands out of sectarian influence. Born again/fundamentalist pricks like Dobson may be flattered now, but just you wait. Jesus will end up just as cheesy as every other warped and sexed up Hollywood interpretation of foreign religious godheads.
