I can't imagine transporting someone with the potential for swelling on the brain unless the possible damage won't matter. She's a brilliant actress and reportedly so kind; it's nauseating that a single moment can take away such people from their families and from the world.
Yes, the news still says she's fine, but I did hear she was brain dead, and not expected to live through tomorrow. What's odd is, yesterday after the accident she said she was 'okay' and later complained of a head-ache...and then became brain dead? That's just scary.
Brain injuries are like that; one moment you're insisting everything is fine and the next, you're hooked up to a machine. The injury could have caused a slow bleed or triggered a small stroke or something else equally horrible, and there would be no way of knowing until it showed itself.
It will be interesting to hear what happens in the next week or so. CBS Evening News was reporting it as a head injury, and there seem to be a lot of angry, "shame on you" type comments in that much more pessimistic TONY thread. FWIW I hope the major outlets are correct and she can recover. I'm curious whether TONY has a scoop or an irresponsible editor.
Either way, I guess the lesson is to let them take you to the hospital if you get a blow to the head, even if you feel ok.
Always go to the hospital when possible for a head injury. They're so stealthy with their damage, and it's so hard to reverse. My cousin's grandfather died today of complications from a stroke; it occurred last week and it was almost a day before he bothered to go to a doctor because he didn't think anything was wrong.
