*grumble* What's up with the Teaspoon tonight?

Jan 08, 2008 22:14

So in between watching CNN I'm refreshing the Teaspoon over and over for new fic, particularly the third chapter of a story I've been following and which I KNOW was submitted by the author 2-3 hours ago... and it looks like no new fic/chapters have been approved for at least two hours.

I know everything's moderated now and mods are humans who have ( Read more... )

It's driving me nuts too - waited 3 and a half hours this evening for my fic chapter to be posted and know I wasn't alone ... grumble, groan :-(

Nope, you weren't. I know the mods are people and have lives, and I'm a mod in another fandom where I do approval-y and membershippy stuff, so I know it's not always possible to get to things immediately. But still... *clings to new fic*

Some definite growing pains on Teaspoon. I don't know why they can't just moderate the first few posts of a person and then leave them alone afterwards, barring ass-hattery in the writing of summaries. Simplifying the rating system was alright, I guess, once they added the "Teen" rating. Because we write some non-porn things that still aren't "All Ages," y'know? My least favorite part of the change so far is when I lost the ability to respond to reviews for a day. And had to re-rate all of my fics. Which, admittedly, must have been a mammoth task for you, since you're so prolific.

Why do you think they got rid of the thumbs up/down system? Perhaps to encourage the writing of actual reviews? I bet non-authors didn't realize authors couldn't see how many stamps of approval we'd received.

I suspect the thumbs went because it never worked properly - one 'dislike' vote and the thumbs-up icon disappeared, no matter how many positive votes you have. I had some stories with dozens of nice reviews (I don't get review totals in the hundreds, but then I don't beg for reviews or hold chapters hostage *eyeroll*), but no thumbs-up.

And, yes, it took me ages to re-rate my fic, and then re-rate it again once Teen came back - which I was very pleased about, since very few of my stories are explicitly adult, but I do have quite a few which aren't suitable for All Ages.

I ask for concrit for my illustrations because I really need the help. T_T No one ever gives me drawing tips, though... Same thing when I wrote smut for the first time; it was a cry for help. The DW fan community is too nice. Still, it's at least a shade better to ask for concrit or ask, "Did this make sense like I wanted it to?" than to say, "Either comment or I probably won't write more. ::glare::" And then not respond to comments you get.

Yes, there's a VERY big difference between saying 'does this work?' and saying 'Review!!!' or 'remember, lots of reviews get more chapters quicker' or even, as at least two people did, post to say they were going to stop updating fics because they weren't getting enough reviews. One of those fics was, at the time, close to the top of the ten most reviewed list. *rolls eyes*

And, yes, I can think of a few review-beggars who never reply... Admittedly, I have a small number of fics where I just never got around to replying (usually because I was under a lot of time-pressure), or later reviews on stories that I haven't replied to, so I can't exactly talk. But every so often I'll set aside some time and go in and reply to some of those reviews, so I do tend to get there eventually...
