*applauds* Fantastic. Love how you've torn them both apart, and given them the means to put themselves back together. The flow of this story is so natural. For all of the intensity, nothing feels forced or artificial. The conversation and the emotion read as very genuine. Love the interplay between Jack and the Doctor. The end of this chapter has the feel of a new beginning. I look forward to the epilogue. :)

Thank you so much! I've been a bit uncertain about this story, despite the very much invaluable assistance of dark_aegis, so to get feedback like yours is like manna ;)

Given them the means to put themselves back together... Yes, that's exactly it. Not completely healed, either of them, but the conditions have been created so that they can heal.

As for new beginnings, see the epilogue :) Thanks again!

Shock prevents him pulling back immediately, and a moment later as he yields and kisses back a rush of thoughts and emotion washes over him: anguish, frustration - all that for nothing; relief - at least I know now; absolution - too long to bear a grudge; and acceptance.

Beautifully done.

I was wondering, as I reached the end, what cliffhanger you were going to pull out. An epilogue, then. *nods*

“Sarah-Jane Smith? Award-winning journalist for one of the most famous newspapers in the world? Not a chance. Oh, she was pissed off that you left her behind, sure, but no-one who can’t move on with their life has a career like that. She was perfectly happy and well-adjusted when I met her.”

Damn straight! (...although, she doesn't hyphenate her name) Part of the whole point of Old Who was that you might not leave on your terms but you always left a better person.

LOL! Yeah, cliffhangers. Sorry about that! I promised three chapters, and then I realised that the final scenes I wanted wouldn't fit.

And, yeah, things just didn't really add up in School Reunion, did they? Yes, seeing the Doctor again like that did bring back old hurts for Sarah, but it's perfectly obvious, all the same, that she lived her life to the full, no man in it notwithstanding - and who says a woman needs a man to be complete?

Thanks! :)

Certainly Sarah Jane, militant 70s feminist, NEVER did!
