This stings. But how much do I love that the Doctor had someone else in his life? I think it was lovely how you worked in that it was a sign of his healing and much improved mental state that he allowed someone else into his heart. It only makes sense and pleases me tremendously. I think the capacity for love, as has been proved with his relationship with Jack and Rose, can move beyond the boundaries of "one person forever" without diminishing the love that already exists.
Still, a tough chapter to read and I'm on pins and needles for the next bit!
The Doctor has a near-infinite capacity for love; it's not like what he gives to one is taken away from another.
Yes, very true. And since, in this series, he's travelling without Jack and Rose for periods of anything from two years to forty years or so, he's got to have other people with him. And - as we see - he can't help caring deeply for people he's with, whether it's agape or eros or a combination.
That was heartrending. Beautiful. But... oh, so very sorrowful. You've manage to make me mourn a companion I've never met. Impressive. The characterization... the mood... the emotion... all so very well crafted -- powerfully so.
I don't think I've ever been so relieved to see three little letters, as I was to see "tbc." *g* This is one hell of a story and I can't wait to see where you will take it next. :)

Wow. That's an incredible compliment, and thank you very much! Especially as Lauren doesn't actually appear in the story; the Doctor's only talking about her in retrospect. Thank you :)
Yes, tbc - there is one final chapter, and it'll be posted as soon as I've finished replying to comments :) Thanks for your patience!

I'm clinging to the hope that part four has the Doctor coming back after all, and isn't just an epilogue.
This was wonderful, though.

Sorry I've been so slow with chapter 4! It's been a bugger to write - but it's finally all done bar the BRing. Coming soon!

It was so haunting and sweet and I just want to hug the Doctor and never let him go.

Something I love as well. The Doctor has a near-infinite capacity for love; it's not like what he gives to one is taken away from another.

It's one of his most attractive traits, really.
