So might I say....this is the best fic I've read in AGES. I normally don't like Jack but the scenes with him and the Doctor are so natural and just beautifully written. And Donna, of course, who is amazing. Poor her, though, thinking the Doctor's dead. But the characterization is gorgeous (there's been a severe lack of IC Donna fic recently so this is a real treat!) and I'm excited to read the second part. Can I assume it will be posted soon? I hope so! :)

Wow, that's a huge compliment! Thank you so much - you really made my week with that! Even more so given you don't like Jack (he's in the rest of the story, so I hope that won't put you off too much; the fanzine theme is particularly about male friendships).

Second chapter coming in just a few minutes!

Poor Donna. I feel bad for her assuming the worst when she loses the translations, though I am pleased by her faith that the Doctor wouldn't abandon her.

The Doctor at that point deserves whatever comments Jack tosses his way. Hopefully they can rebuild their friendship a bit with this. And I often thought Jack and Donna would do well on adventures together.

Yes, poor Donna! She knows by this stage that the Doctor doesn't abandon his friends, so there's not a lot else she could assume :(

As for Jack, he's got a lot to be angry about, yes; but he does still care about the Doctor a lot, otherwise he wouldn't feel his hurt so strongly. And Jack and Donna together... oh, yes!

Yes, it is absolutely the people we love the most who have the most capacity to hurt us.

This is great! I love this sort of story, where the Doctor has to go rescue his companion. Looking forward to reading the rest!

Thank you! Except, of course, it's not the Doctor doing the rescuing this time ;)

Well, that's . . . a bad situation. Yeah. Poor Donna, sitting in a prison cell a millennium and more than a few star systems away from home, thinking she's completely alone. Good to know her knights in long coats are coming after her, but man, Jack and the Doctor have some issues. I love me some good friendship fic!

Yes, it is rather bad, isn't it? Glad you're liking this, and I hope you enjoy the conclusion!

I think they both need it, yes! Maybe they'll piss the Doctor off even more and get it from each other? ;)
