Brilliant closing chapter. :) Not just because we finally understand what really happened to Jack and the relationship between him and Nine, but because of the way you handled final stage of the transition from hate to intolerance to tolerance to sympathy to love between alt!Jack and Rose. I'm not usually a fan of the "sparks flew" theory of attraction, because it can seem very abrupt, but the way you used it here, I really like it. It felt perfectly right to me that sparks flew and they turned that corner and there it was, because Jack really hasn't been himself. He finally goes over that rise and becomes flirt-with-anything Jack again, and that's the moment the connection's fully made ( ... )

I *have* gone through her whole back catalog and still think this is one of her best stories (which is saying something since she is one of my top 3 authors in the DW world). It made me feel all warm and squishy inside with how the characters grow because, initially, I really didn't like Jack's character at all.

I'd love to see more of this 'verse like we have with Dame Ruth's Jed!verse.

*blushes again*

You're far, far too kind and I don't know what to say!

This, too, is a huge compliment:

It made me feel all warm and squishy inside with how the characters grow because, initially, I really didn't like Jack's character at all.

I know that Jack came across as very unpleasant and unlikeable at the start (though I hoped readers would see the Doctor's obvious affection for him had to mean something *g*), and hearing that you came to like him shows me that I've achieved what I set out to do. Thank you :)

You and honorh have really set me blushing furiously here! I'm beyond thrilled that you like this story so much, and particularly that Jack's transition works for you. It's always difficult writing that kind of intense character development; I'm not a psychologist, and I haven't been through anything even close to that kind of trauma, so I'm kind of guessing at how it would work, even with some educated guesses.

Giving beloved characters a different backstory is always a gamble, too: not just getting their characterisation right given the backstory, but also taking the risk that readers will simply not recognise them as the characters they love. It's such a relief that Jack and the Doctor are plausible in general here. Thank you so much!

Hmm I've been following this story with great interest. I really do like the way you created Jack in this universe, so dark and hurt but it was a pleasure to see him open up to Rose and his relationship with the Doctor. As from your other stories I know you are a doctor jack rose person so wondered where this was going to go. Very pleased with the ending and happy Rose gets to be with a Doctor and Jack in a beautiful relationship. Wonder if they're gonna tell Jackie lol.

Thank you! Writing Jack like this was a challenge, but also fun to do, and I'm delighted that it came across well for you. And thank you for commenting here and on the Spoon!

Will they tell Jackie? Maybe... and if I do write more in this universe we might even find out ;)

I absolutely love this. The depth of Jack's backstory and the path of his healing throughout this just really tugged at my heartstrings.

I absolutely loved this. I thought Rose's reaction to being introduced to the idea of a poly-relationship absolutely dead on, and I loved the scene where Jack told the story of how he saved the Doctor.

I'm sorry my review couldn't be longer -- I'd love to go on and on, but I did really enjoy this!
