Laughing so hard at that article about Dan Brown. But as one of the comments said books like his never even pretended to be well-written. They are easy to read and have something that keeps readers going. I loved the movie The Da Vinci Code, so I tried the book, but I couldn't even get through the first chapter. Same with the Notebook: good movie; boring book. Sadly when the book is good the movie normally isn't.
This is why, even though I do know a lot of people who read, we never talk about books. I can't force myself to read what they read and they don't want to read the books I read. The only exception (which isn't really an exception as it took until book three before I made it through one of the books) is Harry Potter.
Yes, the Dan Brown piece was excellent. I couldn't get through the Da Vinci code either.
But yeah, recently I've read The Breath of God by a guy named Jeffrey Small and also The Joshua Project by the same guy. I loved them, even though some percentage of modern scholars think that St. Issa is not Jesus i.e. if Jesus existed he did not travel to India and other places; and even though the science for the Logos machine was a bit loose; and even though Jeffrey Small seems to argue for a synchrenization [sp] of all religions.
