Colloquial speech being what it is, the trouble with saying "So-and-so deserved this" is that you can never be sure whether it means:

1) "...for a fairly-played and hard-fought game, deserved the accolades received"

or

2) "...for his crimes, deserved an eternity of screaming agony stuffed under a bench in a place that might or might not be Kings Cross Station."

Or any horror or sci-fi author dealing with issues of precognition. Frank Herbert's Dune is a perfect example.
