So are various contestants from the Indian ocean. Though not marine life, the Madagascans are thrilled. Leni would be so proud.

Hey!!! Is that another thinly veiled anti-American crack? Because we're totally over trying to look human.

You forget that I am more pro-American than are all too many Americans.

It is the first time that I cannot even bring myself to look at the telecast. At least the USSR did not pretend the Olympics were Making Things Better.

GetUp, an allegedly grassroots Australian political movement, purchased advertising time on both sides of the opening ceremony on the station that would be screening it, to show a pro-Tibet advert. The station accidentally showed the wrong ad in the slot before the ceremony, and had 'technical difficulties that prevented them showing the one after'. But there was no IOC interference, of course.

Of COURSE not. wemyss August 10 2008, 16:03:02 UTC
Why, they'd never THINK of such a thing.

I did not watch the opening ceremonies.
Or anything so far this time.

My aunt went on and on the other day about how wonderful the Americans were going to be looking with "ascots" for the ladies and ties for the men.
I remain unconvinced that ascots and ties are enough to rehabilitate the Untied States.

... do not consider that the United States require any rehabilitation - EXCEPT as to their team habiliments. America wants better tailors, very badly.

Considering the horrors I saw on the English lady archers, I would say that this particular charity had very much better begin at home.

That reminded me of the rather fine opening ceremony for the Turin Games a couple of years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNSz0_XJD4s&feature=related This performance of our national anthem was its climax, and certainly better than anything the Chinese came up with.
