I started crocheting about two weeks ago now, and finished my first amigurumi yesterday... Yoda from star wars, a gift to the boyfriend for christmas

He's very cute !! You were doing it right making the head and then going right into making the body. You would just decrease down to close it up a bit then start increasing again to make the body.I know there are some Yoda pattern around if you hunting for free patterns check out CrochetPatternCentral
For this yoda, I made the head and body seperately, then attached them together. :)
Once you have the head, and you start to decrease, how do you make a neck? just sc around and then start to increasing again? On another project, when I made the head, decreased, and started to increase again to make the body, after increasing a few rounds the stitches looked swirly, like a bath puff! So i unraveled it figuring I had done something wrong..
Oh hehe I see I thought you tried it on Yoday and didn't like the way it looked. I'm not sure what you did to get the swirly look I would have to see it to know what you mean. Yes to make the neck just sc around after you've decreased down to the size you like I usually only do 2 or so rows for the neck otherwise it looks a bit girrafe like lol Then just as you increased to make the head start going right back up in increases.Start right back where you left off on the last decrease round but instead do it as an increase round. Like 2 sc in 1, Sc in 2, repeat around Next round 2 sc in 1, Sc in 3, repeat around on on that like that.
Another way to do a head and body is to do a head and decrease down, then go around a row or two for a neck, then just leave those stitches open. Make the body the shape you want, like an oval or whatever. Then sew the neck/head onto the body. Sometimes shoulders are really tough and it is often easier to do it in pieces.
