I think you might be right. It's still confusing though - if that's what the pattern means why doesn't it just say that! :P

I also just occurred to me that if it meant you were supposed to do 2sc in every sc it probably would just have been written as:

*2sc in 1st sc, repeat from * around

Thanks for your comment :)

I have this book and there are a number of mistakes in several of the patterns (the octopus comes to mind) I took the book with me to my local yarn store and they helped me sort out what it should be. I think annettle is right about what the pattern should read. It's really trial and error with this book some of the patterns work as read but not all, good luck!

I actually managed to muddle through the octopus! (I'll post up some photos of the projects I have been able to finish so far soonish.) I think that pattern is more forgiving if you make mistakes along the way because it's just a bunch of blobby shapes, but that little fish is fussier because it all has to match up.

I'm glad it's not just me that's had trouble with the patterns in that book. It's such a shame because the animals are so~ cute!

It's unfortunate, but not all the pattern books out there have been tested thoroughly so there are any number of mistakes in them. Honestly, I have about ten or twelve books and they all have at least two mistakes in them. Some are glaringly obvious and some catch you off guard because at first glance they might seem like they're correct.

So don't be so quick to doubt yourself just because you're new. =)

Set it down for an hour or two and come back to it later with fresher eyes. If you can't figure it out then come and ask us! It's what we are here for.

Welcome, and thanks for posting your question! :o) It sounds like you have your answer, so I won't add to that, but I do have one comment....

Next time you're having trouble, please don't wait several weeks to ask for help! :o) There are wonderful and talented folks here that are very willing to help, so don't suffer out there alone. ;o) Also, if you have trouble with a pattern that you've purchased, do be sure to contact the designer for help as well. Most are very willing to support their products.

We look forward to seeing your fish! :o)
