this is awesome! :D first of all, thanks for continuing your series--great to get a medical perspective! and secondly, thanks for articulating all of this--i fully subscribe to your viewpoint and have instinctively assumed it for a while. ;)
Fascinating stuff - especially the thought that Lucius' and Draco's remarks about the big Weasley family is born from jealousy. I am a bit hesitant, though, to generalise based on the Black Family Tree alone. This is one family only, an exceptional family, too.
Also to clarify - I love what you are doing here and much appreciate the thought you put into these essays. I simply think there is not enough data in the books to generalise about the wizarding world

I am confused by the idea that cancer, alzheimers and osteoarthritis are man-made diseases. There are definitely risk factors that increase the odds of people getting these diseases at an earlier than average point in time, however everyone, regardless of their lifestyle will get these diseases, if they live long enough. It is not a question of if but a question of when. The reason these disease are relatively rare in developing countries is that people tend to die of infectious diseases long before they would otherwise develop degenerative disease.
This is awesome
