you should also read DWJ's Hexwood. It makes little to no sense for the first third at least, but it's interesting enough that you want to know what's going on. It's this awesome blend of sci-fi and fantasy that kills me.

The cool cover art editions are the ones that do not have the stupid cartoony-looking characters. Instead they looking like awesomely edited images. Like the first one has Nita and Kit walking on air to get to the worldgate, and the second one has a picture of them swimming in the ocean (with sharks? Can't remember details, haha).
