it originated because weims were getting hurt in the field while hunting, injuring their tails and then needing partial or full tail amputation. Now it's part of the weim club of america breed standard that tails must be docked (weims in europe do NOT have to be docked; in fact, it may be the opposite over there...)
Supposedly it is more humane/hurts less to whack it off at 3 days old. Tell that to the puppy.

Is Zoe pretty good about letting you guys hold/pet the pups? Is she being protective of them?

tomorrow the pups go to get their tails docked. I'm sure I'll cry...I KNOW the pups will. :-(
