The lesson with Jack went well, and the meeting after that was as uneventful as he'd hoped. A simple transaction later and they were able to return to the island. George had been hanging out in town, watching the comings and goings of all the people, missing the Lower City's bustle and smell.

When he caught sight of Kyle and Jack coming off the Causeway though, he was curious of Kyle and the load he was subtly carrying. He jumped down from his perch, starting to follow Kyle through town and then into the Preserve.

Had to be the Preserve, didn't it. Still not completely comfortable with that much wilderness, George made a face.

Kyle hadn't noticed he was being followed this time, but his built-in paranoia made him take unnecessary detours well away from any path anyway. They were about five minutes in when something started to not feel right. He picked up the pace.

Of course he did. George sped up as well, knowing the extra speed made it more likely for Kyle to make him. But he wasn't about to give up now, hoping to see how far he'd be able to make it unnoticed.

It wasn't until Kyle reached the thick tree with the good climbing branches he used as a navigational marker than he stopped and put the bag down. Kyle crouched over it, looking as if he was busy, but he was listening to confirm his suspicions. He slid his sidearm out of his inner jacket pocket and thumbed the safety off.
