Reaction to 9.07 - Bad Boys

Nov 20, 2013 20:24

I really liked episode 9.07, Bad Boys. So much good ol’ Supernatural goodness - old fashioned ghost hunt, flickering lights, cold spots, Dean gets thrown into a wall, Sam gets choked… and no angels or demons to speak of - I felt like it was season 1. Good times.

However, I did take issue with one particular aspect of the show. ( Anyone who knows me is going to know what's bothering me about last night's episode. )

supernatural, meta, television

I am always bummed when the give John the 'I am the shittist father' award. When Dean said he was there for 2 months I'm thinking was John in hell,no way is he leaving his kid in the care of others. He hardly left them with Bobby and Pastor Jim.
I liked that it was a lot like season one, ghosts, burning dead things.. I did like the little boy..

The set up was lame, which is too bad because the rest of the episode was really good.

I'm sorry, I know it's too simplistic, but all I could think while reading your post was "...RIGHT??"

It just doesn't make SENSE! Which is really a shame because otherwise I really enjoyed the episode.

I have created my own personal head cannon in which simultaneously to this Adam was sick and needed bone marrow or a kidney or something and John was at the hospital giving platelettes or his liver while Sam was at Bobby's and Dean was at Sonny's. Lalalalala

LaLa - I like your scenario better than other ones I've seen where John was with what's-her-name and Adam but it was more like "my kids are off my plate so I'll go hang out with my other kid". I could see some unexpected trauma come up, and John not wanting to explain to Bobby or the boys...but then things took some sort of tragic turn and a weekend turned into two months. I'm with you...lalala...

oh I just got caught up to this ep and just sat there thinking WHAT? WAIT. WHA?????

My patch is that this is when John first learned that Mary was a hunter and that the Campbells were likely why this all started. He sees Dean in an environment that would give him a home if John died, he sends Sam to Bobby - knowing that if he died, and Sam needed to be "taken care of" because the YED - Bobby's there to take care of it.

Something happens, he fails again to find the YED and he gets over his "rebellion" - goes back and gets Sam back and goes to get Dean. This is why he has even less than normal social skills with Sonny.

I like this too. I'll pretty much go for anything that *isn't* what the episode presented us.

You know me, I don't give one flying flaming crap about the plot line. But this? BUGGED THE SHIT OUT OF ME. WTF?? What about previous young Sam and Teen Dean in high school together...wouldn't he have been the same age and there was no mention of wrestling AND they were together. I'm sure we'd have heard about the two months Sam spent at Bobby's while Dean was "on a hunt" alone. I call total bullshit.

Other than that, I liked it. I loved the S1 feeling. I really miss that. And Jensen, you know, LOOKED OUTSTANDING.

I think the original script called for Dean 14 and Sammy 10, but that would make even LESS sense with Dean being missing for two months. BULL-SHIT!

Jensen is awfully pretty. Let's stay focused on that.
