Grassroots

Dec 10, 2008 09:47

I've pretty much decided to go grassroots now and spread the word about what's been happening to me on campus. Oh, and the professor is NOT a professor, but a regular technical employee for the Physics department (guess the police had it wrong). So there are no issues with tenure or anything ( Read more... )

pride, work

Is there anything I can point to so I can tell others?

I sent you something through Facebook that you can pass along (although if there are any references to "professor" in there, please change them to employee of Physics or whatever, since I found out he's not actually a professor). If people wanted to take action, I think they could write directly to our Provost, Naramin Farvardin. Thanks!

I'm tempted to write a letter myself.

Scratch that. I may have limited internet access for the rest of the day, but could you email me the same thing you sent sevenjades? If I spend most of the rest of the day waiting for computer diagnostics (as I am now), I'd like to be able to read over the real-life facts and be able to write an email to send.

You know, if you wanted to take further legal action, the ACLU or Lambda Legal might be willing to take your case on pro bono. Just a thought.

I'm in touch with lawyers, but I don't think I want to go the legal route on my own. It's going to be drawn out, I may end up losing anyway, and the timing is totally shitty for a couple reasons, mainly the economy if I lose my job because of this, and the little one of the way. sigh. Thanks, though.

I'm terribly disappointed at the college. How can they just look the other way about something like this? I hope that you are able to be the straw that tips the balance, and that they haven't taken action against this employee yet because nobody's complained about it hard, long and loud enough yet.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'm really disappointed, too. Just goes to show you that we're still an acceptable group to beat on, even when it's written out in the policy.

Just a question: is there a union there? Even if you aren't a member of the union, you still might be a member of the bargaining unit (not all members of a bargaining unit are members of the union, but unions are still required to protect them) and this would be a matter for which a grievance could be filed.

Excellent idea...I'm friends with one of the leading bargaining unit people here and I've just sent him an email. Thanks!

Can you send me an email with the rundown of your situation or that letter you wrote. I used to work with the director of the Office of Diversity Programs and Services and the Assistant Directors of LGBT Affairs at GMU, and I'd be happy to send it along. bookgeek at g mail.
