Buying online

Have any Australians here ordered their dresses from an online store based in the US? I found and tried on the dress I want - it's gorgeous, but it's going to cost more than three times compared to what houseofbrides.com or flaresbridal.com are asking ( Read more... )

I tried on my dress in a salon and then ended up purchasing it on ebay. It wasn't an international transaction, but I definitely thought it was worth the risk. I wouldn't pay the higher price!

House of Brides is reputable, if that helps your decision. I tried on dresses there! It just looks like they don't do refunds or exchanges.

I'm not normally this nervous about internet transactions, but the consequences could suck if it doesn't go to plan. Thanks for your feedback, I'm glad House of Brides has a good rep, it makes me feel a bit better about it!

I tried the dress on her for the style and sizing. The sales lady mentioned that the designer was an American one. So I checked it out and ordered online from a shop recommended on designer web site. Compared to ozzy pricit was bargain :-) So order from reputable shop and I don't think you'll have a problem :-)

I actually wished I'd taken that gamble, as you have to get a dress you buy in the shop altered anyway, so either way whether it fits perfectly or not isn't an issue. I've seen some amazing dresses on ebay for a third of the price like you said, and all their feedback is perfect. It's just the quality I guess, but I think it'd be worth a shot. Obviously make sure it's wayyyyyy before your wedding!!

who is the designer? Some designers won't let you ship to Australia for the very reason that they know people do it because dresses are so much cheaper in America.

Ugh, I was worried that could be the case.

The dress is from the Mon Cheri line by Sophia Tolli. I have cousins in the US, so I could have the dress sent to them, and then have it sent to me if that's the case. That's just going to be extra time :(
