What is a "vendor meal"? I'd planned on getting an extra meal for my photographer, but I wasn't sure if they usually plan on like, sitting down and eating ( Read more... )

I think most vendors have a clause in their contract about meals. We accounted for our vendors in our head count, and had places for them at a table. I think our photographer ate with some of my guests, and our DJ ate at his booth.

-nod- It was in his contract, but all it said was provide a vendor meal. I didn't know what that really entailed...

I'd just ask what he prefers. Our photographer ate with some guests at a table - which was fine with us, as we didn't want pics of people eating. The DJ ate a bit later (it was Ramadan and he was Muslim, so he had a plate in his booth).

Ask your venue what they do for vendors... I know for ours, they got hamburgers or something like that rather than the guest meals. I think all of my vendors who were eating took 30 minute breaks at some point and ate in another room. They did them in stages, though, and I believe that since there were two photographers, they took separate breaks. I agree with the point about not necessarily wanting pictures of people eating, though, so it might work out best if they just eat while you guys are eating.

Our "venue" is just a restaurant and we're basically just getting their semi-private room and having dinner. It's not a specific wedding event, so I'm afraid they don't have accomodations for vendors, given that they don't "do" weddings.

We're not doing anything -but- eating, lol, so there's that.

We had loads of extra seating at our venue, so the photographer just went through the buffet line after everyone else had gone and then found a quiet corner to sit down and eat. For a buffet it's easy that way, but I can see how having a plated meal might be a bit more complicated. I would touch base with your caterer/venue and see what their common approach is.

We had our venders eat the same meal as the guests (the buffet) and they were EXTREMELY APPRECIATIVE. As a matter of fact, our DJs said that they last few weddings they were at, they had a box meal and were extremely grateful to be included with the buffet. They also all sat with the guests. My photographer got some business out of it and some friends who sat with her got some great camera advice. The DJs sat with my cousins and their spouses and they actually exchanged numbers and plan on getting together in a few weeks to hang out! So everyone made friends LOL.
