Engaged as of yesterday!

Which means I'm finally allowing myself to delurk and start posting here!

Name and/or LJ userID: Liz/pockythoughts
Wedding Date: Undecided as yet, but we have been batting around the idea of October 2012.
Bride/Groom/Other (please specify): I'm the bride, and it feels soooo good to say that! :) The groom is James, or as he's known on the internet Xycrion.
Age: 27, fiance is 26.
City/State/Country you live in: Upstate NY, Capital Region
City/State/Country you're getting married in (if different): The same. We're thinking about Saratoga or Lake George.
Your song/First Dance song: Undecided, but we have joked about interrupting our first dance with a Rickroll. XD
Wedding Colors: Again, undecided. I kind of want a wedding dress with some color to it, and if I go that route I think whatever color the accent is will inform the rest of the color scheme. I know I don't want anything 'traditionally' autumn, that's for sure. :P
Formality: Semiformal-ish.
Theme (if you have one): Traditional with a twist - a traditional wedding, liberally sprinkled with inside jokes, internet memes and homages to our geeky shared interests.
Number of guests: I'm anticipating about 100.
How'd you meet your fiance?: OKCupid! It was my first time trying online dating, and it paid off big time. :)
How long have you been together?: 1 year and 4 months.
Do you have a personal wedding website?: Not yet!
Have you read the community rules before posting this survey and do you agree to follow them? Yes and yes.
Anything else you'd like to tell us?: Proposal story and ring pics are under the cut!

Yesterday afternoon, he and I were just enjoying a lazy Saturday at home. I was watching stupid Youtube videos on my laptop in the living room, and he was in his office. He came out and asked for my help testing a video game hack he had been working on (He's a programmer). I complained a little because I'm terrible at video games and he knows this, but I went in his office to help out. He sat me down at his computer and gave me the controller. I was asking him which buttons to push, etc., and a little box pops up with a personalized message to me, saying he hopes he did the game right and that everything goes well.  I found that odd, but cute, and it definitely didn't occur to me that he was proposing. So we start the game up, and I find myself awkwardly scrolling Mario through this:

I think I realized what was going on when I reached the W.

My jaw dropped. Apparently the look on my face was pretty priceless, or so my fiance says. I had to scroll through the rest of the letters just to confirm that it said what I thought it said. And then when I turned around, he was on one knee with the ring. I pretty much threw myself out of the chair to hug him and put it on. Then he told me that he knows we'll always stick together and support each other through good times and bad, and that he knows he'll never find someone else like me because I understand him, share interests with him, and am as geeky as he is. (Clearly, if I appreciated his Mario proposal!) And he 'officially' asked, and I said yes!

This is my ring:

I love the detail on the sides and the way the prongs are shaped like little flower petals. :)

We've been talking about getting married since I moved in with him at our one-year anniversary in June, and I found out he's been planning this pretty much since we started talking about it. He also got most of my family involved, but swore them to secrecy and as a result I had no clue when the proposal was coming! When we started telling people yesterday, it seemed like everyone I know knew about it but me!
- He invited both my parents out to breakfast with him to ask for their blessing. This was a huge deal because my parents are divorced and had not sat down to a meal together in 15 years.
- He used my mom as a spy to get my ring size and suggestions of styles that I like.
- He showed the ring to my sister and got her approval before he bought it.
- He worked on the video game for the proposal with my sister's boyfriend, who is also a computer guy.

I'm overwhelmed by the amount of thought and love he put into this, and it all went off perfectly. And I can't wait to start planning!
