My wedding dress had spagetti straps and closely followed my hourglass shape, as well as bunched up awkwardly if it was the slightest bit too tight around my body.
So I found a strapless bra and spanx pants that covered my thighs and my tummy. What I ended up doing was using the bra to keep the spanx up! I tucked the spanx underneath the strapless bra, and it worked wonderfully!
Plus it was from Walmart, so it was only about $35-$40 for both!
It was just what I needed to keep my extra chub under control, my boobs where they needed to be, and my legs from chafing. Thank God I didn't chafe, what a nightmare for a Disney honeymoon later on x__X
I use spanx, but they leave me looking a bit pregnant, so I'm getting a horsehair sash from Vera Wang (David's Bridal) to hide any little bulge I may have.
I do well in bras, but I may try barelifts for my strapless dress. I should mention though, that I'm not super huge (38C/D). I read reviews for the product and they work fine for my size, but anything above a D is apparently no good.
My main concern in covering my arms without looking too bulky. I'm hoping I can find a viel to do the job, otherwise, it's a bridal jacket for me!
I'm a 42DD (size 24) and bought a longline bra from David's Bridal. I believe it was around $50, if I recall correctly. My dress had an a-line skirt so I didn't need anything for my hips.
I am not plus sized but I am 38DD. The few times I have worn a few strapless dresses in my time a longline bra has been wonderful. It is nice because once I bought one I started buying more dresses with spaghetti straps.
BTW, I plan on wearing the longline bra over some spanx to hold in my tummy at my wedding.
I strongly suggest you take your dress and go to a bra boutique (not like a bra store in the mall..but a store that does one-on-one fittings and consultations). They will help you pick out the perfect bra/shapewear for you and your dress- and if you find that what they suggest is too expensive, you can always take their suggestions and go to a cheaper store. good luck!
