Hair & Makeup Question

Our entire wedding is being paid for by my fiance and all of my bridal party knows that. Is it awful to ask anyone who wants hair and makeup done professionally to help us out a little bit with the costs? Makeup is going to be $85 a person ($200 for me) and hair I have no idea how much yet. Is it wrong if we ask everyone to give us $100 towards it ( Read more... )

I would say that if you're REQUIRING them to have them same makeup/hair, then you shouldn't force them to pay, but if you are just giving them the OPTION then it's totally acceptable to say 'hey, we have a make up person available for 85.00/person, please let me know if you would like to use her and you can have cash/check available.' or something.

If you're requiring it you should foot the bill.

If it's optional, it's perfectly reasonable for them to pay for it themselves.

I would think that if you are requiring hair and makeup, that it may be a little untoward to ask them to contribute towards it. But if you are leaving it up to the bridesmaids about whether you want to get their hair and makeup done, then they can pay. $85 is also quite pricey - I know that Sephora will do your makeup at the counter for $50, and you can get it done at a MAC counter (or really any makeup counter) by buying about $50 in merchandise. If I were a bridesmaid and wanted makeup "professionally" done, I would do that. I wouldn't want to pay $85 for makeup.
