I like the Cupid Shuffle SO much better than the Cha Cha Slide. That one's been done to death but the Cupid Shuffle is pretty easy to learn (it's a line dance; the instructions are in the song but it's repetitive like the Electric Slide rather than being all instruction based).
I actually relearn it at every wedding I go to, because I forget it in between, lol. But it's just four steps to the right, four steps to the left, kick out each foot twice, and then turn 90 degrees in "walk it out" fashion (legs bowlegged, stepping to the beat). Lather, rinse, repeat. It's REALLY easy. Here's a video:
You can see everyone puts their own style to it. But at least one person has to know it at the wedding, otherwise everyone gets frustrated and sits down!
Cupid Shuffle and the Cha Cha Slide always get everyone dancing.
I'm trying to think of what had people dancing at my wedding. I think as long as the bride and groom are out there dancing, people will follow their leads. I was out there pretty much the whole time, and our dance floor was packed. I remember we had a ton of people dancing and singing during "500 Miles", which surprised me because it wasn't one I would normally think of as being a good dance song.
I know that song gets a lot of play around here because it was in the movie White Chicks - Marlon and Shawn Wayans were basically making fun of it and paying homage to it at the same time, and it's played at least twice in the movie and they're singing along, so suddenly now everyone I know knows that song and will join in singing to it.
