So I looked through the memories and saw some related questions which helped, but nothing quite like this.

Has anyone here eloped and then had a vows renewal modeled after a traditional wedding several years later? I've seen lots of posts in which people have eloped and then had a vows renewal or traditional ceremony/wedding less than a year

My husband and I eloped in February of this year in Vegas. WE have been "engaged" since April since his mother thought our elopement would scandalize her family. WE plan on having another more elaborate ceremony/ reception next year once he gets a job and we can pay for it. I do wish my mom had been there but it was better for us without anyone there. We were originally not tell anyone but paperwork game the secret up.
