Food Fight

So in my head, I've been planning a simple picnic-esque dinner for our reception (cold cuts, cheese, bread, salads). I've even gone so far as to look into prices for such at local stores. This morning, I was talking to FH about it and he says it's too cheap for our wedding. He wants BBQ. I think serving BBQ will double or triple our food budget ( Read more... )

I am certain that I would not remember the menu at a wedding I attented a year and a half ago, so I don't think you should think it's tacky to do a similar menu as your cousin.

Try pricing out both and see how they compare. Maybe if he sees there is a huge price difference, he won't be set on it. However unless having a picnic menu is very important to you and you can afford the BBQ, I'd suggest carefully picking your battles. I really don't care for buttercream frosting but my husband loves it so we that on our cake and I really didn't open my mouth at all about his and his GM's attire...probably 95% of the wedding was my choice, so some things it was only fair for him to get his way even if it wasn't my first choice.

Or you could always price out completely different menu's that you both equally agree on and go from there.

That dress sites has a lot of really cute old school/ shorter dresses. There's a couple dresses there for under 500$ that makes me wish I'd bought one of those to at least try on before paying 1k for the dress I ended up getting.

As for the food thing, I totally agree with amymeenieminymo above. If cost is an issue, come up with a legitimate budget for both options and talk it over with FH. If he really wants the BBQ and you two can still afford it, why not let him have this one? If it's a concern about manpower/you don't want to pay for a caterer, figure out who'd realistically be willing to get involved with preparation and serving the food. You might be surprised at how many people want to help out.

I almost bought the same dress! Those Stop Staring dresses fit like a dream. I still want to buy myself one of their other pieces.

I really dislike your use of the word "ghetto" here.

Sorry? It was a direct quote from my FH (who isn't terribly politically correct at times).

Well, there was no need to present it here. You could have chosen a different, less "politically-incorrect" way of stating the same thing and still gotten your point across.
