Intro Post
First "inspiration" etc. post

I am having some serious centerpiece overload. I've got tons of ideas that are all completely different, but the one I am liking the best right now is *edible centerpieces". I'd like to incorporate eco-friendly/green options as much as possible, and I think this is a great way to do so, instead of dying ( Read more... )

I've seen people use pie or cake as a centerpiece...a different kind on every table. It gets people to wander around and mingle while they scope out where they want to be when people start cutting into them. Some interesting bartering tactics do develop, however!

If I saw a bowl of fruit on the table as a centrepiece, I would be more inclined to assume it was fake fruit, or just for decoration, not for eating.
The cake idea sounds awesome.

Also... maybe candy jars with unique kinds of candy based on who is at the table (for older people maybe candy from the 50s and for people in their twenties and thirties candy from the 90's?) that will get people to mingle too.

Same. If you use fruit, I'd probably make an announcement to your guests that the centerpiece is for snacking, not just for looks. I also really like the candy idea! Rock candy in particular would be pretty for centerpieces.

Otherwise, another completely inedible but not wasteful idea would be to have cute little planters of flowers/herbs/whatever on each table, and you could let guests know they can take them home with them.

I think if she did rock candy arranged with citrus, it would be really cool. Then the guests could have the sweet with the sour.

It would look awesome. Future hubby is a dentist though, so candy is a no go.

If you were having a summer wedding, I would scream STRAWBERRIES! =P

I found this online. Pears and pistachios!

Definitely strawberries for summer. They are in season local in June/July in my town and are the best strawberries you've ever tasted.

I love the red pears! And the fall leaves give it a nice touch.

Ours were cookies.

A friend and I each baked about 250 - 300 ginger-molasses cookies (my specialty, and loved / oft-requested by both sides of the family). My mom and her oldest friend made (hand-made! I thought they'd get them at Goodwill or something) baskets for the center of each table, lined in our color scheme, and each basket was filled with cookies. We put small goodie bags (also blue) on each table so that anyone who wanted to take home some cookies could.

So the cookies did triple duty as desserts, centerpieces, and favors and it was actually a huge hit.

Here's one example of them, and although these photos aren't focused on the tables, you can see two others in the backgrounds.
