If you have a Costco membership, or know someone who does, their invitations are pretty reasonably priced and most have thermography (raised printing). In my initial "just looking" bit, I'm finding a lot of chocolate brown but not with light green or purple. Colored thermography just tends to be spendy, as I understand it. Your vision sounds very custom, which probably means that yeah, it's going to be spendy.
Both thermography and letterpress are going to be expensive. For every color you add for printing, it will raise the price as it's another template that must be created.
Ways to help save money on your design if you have your heart set on thermography or letterpress: 1. Print in one color only, utilize your other colors via ribbon or colored layers of card stock. 2. Forgo the RSVP envelope and make your RSVP card a postcard.
$6 per invitation for what you describe actually sounds fairly reasonable.
I used http://www.theamericanwedding.com/ I loved my invitations so much and I even got my place cards from them. There was a whole shipping fiasco (UPS's fault) and they did an emergency reprint for the place cards and free overnight shipping to make sure we got them in time. I highly recommend them, they have such wonderful customer service.
