We had a BBQ in our backyard for our rehearsal. I asked everyone that was in town to bring a dish to pass. We supplied the hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, rolls, condiments, beer, pop and mixers. I was lucky enough that my friend was DJ'ing our wedding and offered to come play music at the rehearsal as long as I had rum for him. [$12 bottle of rum to pay a DJ for 6 hours? OK!]

I was worried we wouldn't have enough food since some of my friends are known to flake out. But everyone brought at least one thing to share, some brought 2-3. We had planned on 45- ended up with 60. And the only thing I ran out of were the graham crackers for the smores. We still had left overs a week after the wedding.

We did a bbq dinner for the reception and we cooked everything ourselves. It came out to be around $700 for everything (I don't know the exact number because this was the one thing my parents paid for). For the cooking we just got together the day before the wedding and did the time consuming side dishes, like potato salad, but everything else was done there - my parents even ended up buying more and cooking more than we needed because people left right after the ceremony, so we still have some of it in our freezer! The only thing that probably would have made it better was getting my dad to start prep the day before so there wasn't as much to do the day of. Oh! As for the cost everything else, the tables were included with the venue and we just did butcher paper for the table cloths, but we had a lot of kids and put crayons out on the tables, and we just did paper plates and had cans of soda and bottled water.
