Show me your... eco-friendly wedding pictures!

Nov 14, 2009 01:17

I just went through all the entries in the "eco-friendly" tag and was amazed at all the great information and resources that are out there for having a "green" wedding. I bookmarked many websites and got a bunch of great ideas, but I didn't see many pictures of people's own green wedding elements ( Read more... )

Yes I understand that eco-friendly isn't a "look" (and that the "greenest" things one can do for their wedding can't be photographed)- I was just curious to see if people had pictures of things like biodegradable plates/ utensils (I remember seeing pictures of someone who used bamboo plates and I loved it but now I don't know where to find the entry), seed/ live plant favors, etc at their own weddings. I'm just looking for more ideas and inspiration.

My friend's ex flatmate wrote a book about green weddings. We encouraged people to RSVP online, or by phone. We did have card invitations, but they were each a sheet which we had printed on both sides, so we wasted less paper. I guess that not having real flowers was also something environmentally friendly that we did.

I've been surprised at how many books there are out there dedicated to environmental wedding planning! And cute bouquets! Were they knit?

Thanks, yes, I knitted them with the help of some friends. Then my husband and I felted them.

Along the wedding invitations line... we didn't use both an inner and outer envelope and we also had online or by phone RSVP...

I'm with dativesingular with supporting local/independent vendors as much as you can. Many, many elements of our wedding incorporated the spirit of reuse. Several decor elements we already owned, and many things we bought were chosen so that we could continue to use them after the wedding. So, in some ways we were 'green' and in other ways not.

We used an online RSVP. We made all of our cards, tags and labels and mostly used recycled paper. We cut our invitations from large sheets of paper and poster board. The paper was recycled.

Our ring bowl was a piece of family silver. The moss? Not so green but it had been purchased a few years ago was never used, so why not?

Wow wow wow! All your photos are just unbelievably beautiful! That bowl is wonderful and those centerpieces are just amazing- I would love to do something similar!

Your wedding will always be one of my favourites to look at in this comm! :) Everytime I see you in the pictures I think that you look a lot like Julia Andrews in The Sound of Music.

We had our rehearsal "dinner" in a state park. So we gave a donation to the park for each of our guests and they were able to learn a little about the local eco-system while the were there.

Here are a few photos. The centerpieces and votives were reused at the wedding the next day as well. And we used fabric to cover the tables instead of disposable tablecloths which I took home and used for sewing projects. Also all cans and bottles were recycled of course. The park was so beautiful and was great about answering questions as many guests had never been there before.

Beautiful photos and way cool beer bottles! My venue is at a local state park as well so donations are a great idea.

I was at the Oregon Country Fair back in '93. The old Rogue brew master had a cartographic booth. Behind said booth were several kegs of Rogue beer. I was very lucky to be with some folks who knew him which meant that we were welcomed to hit the tap anytime. We certainly did not abuse that gift. The inner beer goddess quivered with delight.

we're using dinner plates, bows and dessert plates made from recycled, pressed banana leaves.

Oh I love those first two sites- I hadn't come across either of them in the tags! And I'm going to do tea at my wedding and so I'm going to scouring all my local Good Will/ Arc/ Savers stores for any kind of tea cups I can find- I've heard people do the same for coffee cups and then they let the guests take them home!
