Ok so my FH's mother died a few years ago and he would love it if we had some sort of "thing" at our wedding to honer her memory at our wedding. I have no ideas. He is really close with my mother and wants her to do it. We belive that when you die your dead and in the ground not in Heaven looking down at us. So if you have any ideas please help.   ( Read more... )

i've seen people have a plaque of some sort on one of the tables that says the person's name, who they were in relation to the couple, and sometimes a picture. usually it says "in loving memory" also.

We put a section in our program called "Here in Our Hearts" and listed our family and friends that were no longer with us, but we wish could have been. My husband's mother also passed away before we were married, so we felt it was important to do something, but thought that something in the program would acknowledge it without dwelling on the sadness.

Both of my parents are deceased - my dad died back when I was 4 and my mom died in 2005. I have no real memories of my dad. However, my mom and I were really close. In her memory/honor, I'm walking down the aisle to Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love". She was a huge Freddie Mercury fan, and we wanted to play Queen at her funeral but the church wouldn't let us. As my wedding ceremony will not exactly be a religious affair, I think this is perfect :)

My mom has a whole list of songs she demands be played at her funeral. "I will survive", "Roll Out" by Ludacris...

I like your idea :]

i don't know if this would work for you guys or not, but maybe you could do some kind of soil ceremony, mixing soil from significant places from the two of you, and the pour the soil into 4 different pots of roses (or your preferred plants). One for the two of you to keep, one for your parents, one for his dad to have, and one to plant at his mother's grave site. We're not an "in heaven" kind of couple either, and that was the first think that jumped out at me.

I love the idea of having something to take to her grave site. I think I've heard of people laying their bouquets on grave sites too.

that is a great idea! Unfortunately, my fiance's mom is buried in a military cemetery and they won't let us plant anything. But that is such an awesome idea.

Echoing the first commenter's idea of a memory table - I know at the last wedding I went to there was a memory table (the groom's father had passed, but they'd also honored g-parents and such), and at some point in the reception the couple went and lit several candles on the table. It wasn't a big, flashy thing - it was nice.
