Eh, I would have been mortified and somewhat upset if someone felt it was appropriate to give me sex toys at a party that wasn't specifically intended for such. Sounds like you handled it far better than I probably would have.
I would be mortified. Knowing my family, it would probably be my aunt or my cousin doing it because they thought it was funny. You handled it very well. I would have been pissed.
I feel like those sorts of gift are more appropriate at a bachelorette party, not a bridal shower.
I haven't had a shower yet, but knowing me I would probably be like "oh, we already have one of these!" or "Awesome, we were looking for one in this colour!" or something to embarrass the givers instead of me being too humilated. But, that's just me. Other suggestions for people in that position would be to look at the giver of the gift and ask them specifically how each device works. If they can't handle talking about their generous gifts, then they shouldn't be giving them!
I am not prude, but I find it strange that other people buy you underwear for sex they won't be having.
The flip side of that is I hate attending bridal/personal showers like that-it's weird and uncomfortable for me to pick out something that is so personal. I have a hard enough time picking out stuff for myself, so how can I do it for someone else?
My best friend MOH..actually made me a really cute thing for my shower. It was a fancy box full of a pair if panties for every month..not really sexy ones but I thought it was really thoughtful.
