If you're new to cruising, or just to that cruise line, I recommend having a look at the boards on CruiseCritic.com. There are a lot of experienced folks there and a lot of very informative threads that'll give you tips worth knowing. :)
thanks for the tip! we are indeed new to cruising and i always like to get info from the horse's mouth (ie: someone who has been there, done that) when i go somewhere or do something that i never have done before.
i will absolutely check out the the site you suggested, it sounds helpful, plus looking at/writing online reviews is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. i've heard from multiple people that cruising is the way to go and once you go on a good one you'll be hooked. i hope this is true!!! i'd really like to take an alaskan cruise in the future.
I'll agree about getting hooked. :) I've been on three: one with Disney, two with Royal Caribbean, and all to different parts of the Caribbean. We were thinking about an Alaska cruise for the honeymoon but it just doesn't work out (Alaska cruises have to be in the summer, for obvious reasons, and the timing's crap for us). So we're thinking of an Alaska cruise for our first anniversary... give or take a few months. ;)
We are getting married on the 9th and are taking our honeymoon cruise to Alaska!, I agree about cruisecritic and that once you cruise you'll cruise again. Also if you are traveling on carnival you can go to carnivalconnections.com
I just did a short Carnival Cruise at the beginning of the month. It wasn't my honeymoon, but I had a great time. My suggestions... if you like soda, bring soda. They let you bring it on. If you like wine, bring wine- you are allowed 1 bottle per person... if you like to drink, bring RUM RUNNERS www.rumrunnerflasks.com they are the greatest invention known to the cruise drinker. We brought two with us and I estimate that on a 3 night cruise it saved us about $200. We saw people with the smaller ones stuck in their bags and spiking their sodas on the Lido deck. We brought a whole suitcase that consisted of bottled water, sodas and gatorades. It was worth every heavy moment.
Also, find out what time you can board at. You may be able to get on the ship around 5 hours before you set sail, it will give you a great time to walk around the ship, check things out, unwind and start your honeymoon even before you expected to.
wow i've never even heard of a rum runner before and am so amused because you really can find anything on the internet! i'm going to have to order one of those, hands down. it's not above me to smuggle booze around and besides, i like having a secret. :)
theres no limit to non-alcoholic beverages, right? your suitcase full of drinks idea is a really good tip and something we will most likely do. also, elegant night? i had no idea? maybe hubs didn't tell me on purpose. ::frown:: how elegant are we talking here? like black tie or like cocktail attire? the only black tie gown i have is my wedding gown, but you don't have to twist my arm to go out and get another one. :P
As far as bringing alcohol goes you are only allowed to bring the one bottle of wine per person... that's where the rum runners come in. You have to smuggle them in your suitcase. But you can bring the sodas in plain sight no problem.
Check out the pictures from ours in my journal. The picture in my personal journal that is all posed is from our elegant night. On Carnival I think the dress code slides a little, but I just wore a nice dress and FH wore a suit w/o a tie (he wears a tie and work and was against wearing one on vacation).
How exciting!! Can't wait for the 789274893749872 pics!! And please do a post-honeymoon post! We're also doing a Cruise for our honeymoon and would love to know how it went for you guys!
i totally will. i wasn't part of this community in november when i got married so i never got to put together the whole "wedding recap" thing, boo. but, i will take pictures of EVERYTHING, all the sites, my cute outfits, yummy meals, animals, water, sunsets, sleeping husband, etc.
we've waited patiently and saved soooo much since the winter time and i am crawling out of my skin to leave. i'll miss my dogs really bad though. :P
