Alternative to place cards?

We're trying to be as eco-friendly as possible with our wedding. Rather than use so much paper for individual place cards, I'm trying to think of other options...but as we're expecting 125 people, we need to assign tables somehow! I've seen a roster-style list of all names in alphabetical order and the table number, but what are some other ideas? ( Read more... )

i havent completely figured out how we will do this, but we are planning on having different baseball parks rather than table numbers (FH is a big baseball fan) so we will probably have a big board at the entrance with the name of a ballpark and the people sitting there right below it. (maybe FH will want to do it line-up style, but I will want to se how that looks first...) and then each table will have a litle card on it with a picture of the ballpark and maybe a little trivia if FH is feeling ambitious. :).

We're using a seating chart. Basically one foam board decorated nicely with everyone's name and seating assignment. Simple and fun! OR, just ditch assigned seating. I've been to a few weddings and had a pretty good time with the tables we've ended up at.

I like this... I was thinking a nature theme as well - various leaves or some such along the same line - painted with the names and table (with a matching on the table itself). But smooth river stones make SO much more sense... :D

I was at a friend's wedding once, and they used leaves they had collected on the ground (it was October) and used a metallic paint pen to write each guest's name on a leaf. It worked really well.

We're just doing table numbers, not individual place-cards, but the theory could still work. ^_^ We've got a ton of little pots I got at Target for like a dollar a piece, and we're putting little herb seeds in them closer to the date. Then we've got those little metal plant-marker thingies with signs on 'em and we'll put the table names on those.

I know my FH's best friend did something similar with assigned seating and pots with little tree saplings, but I think a lot of the saplings ended up dying (we took two and were all excited about it and still didn't end up planting them, though I think it was partly to do with their wedding was in September, so it wasn't the right season and we just sort've forgot to keep watering them, etc.)

I attended a wedding once where the attendants greeted you at the door to the room where the meal was being held, asked you your name, consulted a list they had (on normal sized paper) and then directed you to the appropriate table. That worked very well, and since there were probably less than 10 sheets of paper printed out would have been very ecologically friendly.
