For seating purposes at a reception... if someone in your wedding party brings their significant other (why wouldn't they?) and you have a "wedding party" table (or whatever they're called)... where does their significant other sit

At my wedding, we didn't have assigned seating so people just sat wherever. We had a wedding party table, sort of, but the guests/spouses of the wedding party were allowed to sit there, too.
When my husband was in a wedding as a groomsman once and the wedding party had to sit at a separate table from the rest of the guests. As a guest who hardly knew anyone else there, this was pretty awkward for me.
That's how I feel but a lot of people say, "suck it up and deal with it for a night" which I think is incredibly rude. Glad I'm not alone in feeling this way!
Every place we looked at did a sweetheart table. It makes the most sense to me anyway. No one in the bridal party will be couples and we would like to spend some time together to chat. Sweetheart table all the way.
I might end up doing a sweetheart table bc I don't want to isolate the bridal parties dates, and all of us won't fit at a single table. I don't want some to feel more special than others...
I was just a maid-of-honor at my mom's wedding and she had my partner sit with my grandmother's family and my best friend. He was fine with it but it was a little awkward. I think we'll be scrapping the wedding party table when we get married.
