How many of you are taking lessons in order to be prepared for your first dance as husband and wife (or husband and husband or wife and wife

We just had our first lesson on Friday :) I wasn't sure how it would go, but we both actually enjoyed it! We're the same as you--no dance experience whatsoever. We've even had trouble with the jr. high shuffle in the past, since my FH is so much taller than me. We needed to learn how to dance with each other!
My FH has been practicing the steps all weekend--and he is REALLY not into dancing. He even demonstrated for his family! We have five more lessons. Ours are through our local "free university"--they aren't free, but the place offers tons of short-term classes in a variety of areas--art, photography, dance, cooking, language, etc.
We also have the extreme height difference challenge. A "step" to him and a "step" to me have about an 18 inch difference :) It definitely added to the....fun, yes right...the fun!
We practiced a few times in the kitchen, but FH has literally laid awake for two nights now visualizing what he wants to do! We've got another lesson on Saturday, hopefully we'll be better!
Try to remind him to take smaller steps since most likely you are having to move around him and therefore have farther to travel.
My fiance and I are taking dance lessons for the reception as well and the instructor is constantly reminding us to take smaller steps. He is 2 inches shorter than I am and still naturally wants to take bigger steps than I do.
I'm glad you are enjoying it. We are to. We originally signed up for 5 classes (one on one with an instructor, but there are other students around on the floor with their own instructors) and ended up upping it to 10 lessons. But that was mostly because we started early and so wanted to make sure that we kept up the practice closer to the wedding/reception. Our wedding is May 3rd and the reception (where we will be dancing) is June 2nd. We have our 6th class tonight.
Where are you taking dance classes? We were thinking about doing that since we also (or at least I...) have no experience, but we're not sure where to go.
Yeah, we're definitely going to be doing this. My FILs were regional ballroom dancing champions a few years back, so the junior high shuffle just won't do. We have to step up! I wanted to do something silly like the Dirty Dancing video posted a little while back, but Ian wants traditional, so we'll go with it. it's not often that he actively *wants* anything in terms of this wedding - other than me, of course.
I saw a dance instructor and his girlfriend at a bridal expo, and decided right then we'd be taking lessons. They looked so good! And my dance experience consists of about 5 years as a youngin' doing tap and jazz, and some tipsy club dancing... his is even more limited. I'm glad to hear a good review about lessons. :)
We're taking dance lessons because Mark doesn't know how to dance. :) I've taken ballroom for a few years, and I know Mark's been intimidated by the concept of dancing in front of people. I couldn't teach him (because I couldn't instruct him in the manner that he needed), so we found a dance place. We dance together every week, and it has improved his confidence SO much. He's such a dork on the dance floor, and I think he'll have a great time during the wedding. He can't wait to show up his friends, who have been teasing him mercilessly. I definitely recommend the dance lessons to anyone who can invest in it.
Not only how you won't look like an idiot, but rather how "cool" you will be instead. :) Seriously, Adam and I have been dancing since long before we met each other. Then we had to learn to dance together because we both learned things differently. Now that we are into the swing of it (horrible pun completely intended!) we move well together. At my sister's wedding, people kept telling us how awesome we looked. Everyone kept watching and I think for the first time ever we were the "cool" people. Women were all jealous because my man danced and the men were all pissed cause their women folk wanted to dance now, etc. It was fab!!! To this day, my sister's grandmother in law says, "Annalise and Adam were sure fun to watch. They're just like dancing with the stars!"
Okay, so we're no Cheryl and Emmit or Mario and Karina or even Jerry and Kim, but we hold our own. :)

It's so much fun once you get it down.
