To say May has missed a lot is redundant, an understated understatement.

Still. May has missed a lot. Like friends losing limbs. No matter how many times she says 'sorry', it's not going to make up for something this huge. 'Hey, Enzan, I heard you had a terrible accident but I had kind of an emo binge after my kidnapping and I didn't want to be a ( Read more... )

Enzan was doing the very important task of spreading his manga out on his bed. By now, he had a lot of it, and this was his fifth time sorting it. It got really boring around here, even if he had started the physical therapy.

Then again, it may have been meant just for impressions, because peeking out from under the manga were books on strategy and forensics. He no longer was missing an arm, although his new one was tucked into his front sweatshirt pocket and seemingly ignored.

"I get birthday presents?"

Or he could have just said come in, but that was boring.

"'May, I missed you it's so nice to see you! Don't worry, Enzan, there's no need to be polite or anything.'" She gives Enzan her best Disapproving Smirk and Eyebrow Raise Combo. Then she upsets the 'order' of the manga by throwing the presents on the bed. Two boxes, one red, one blue.

"It's just some Spidey-themed gear from my Mom's shop. Lame, I know, but I was kind of strapped for cash. There's a web patterned shirt and a black hoodie with a spider.... aaand a hat. I think. Might've forgotten to pack the hat."

She curls herself up into the chair and finally looks at Enzan face to face. "I'm really sorry I couldn't come sooner," she whispers. What about the arm, you ask? Oh, that just got a casual glance. Not that May's not upset at seeing it, but hey, she grew up around a man with a prosthetic limb. So not that traumatizing. "What have you been up to? Other than reading, apparently."

"Sorry," he snorted, shoving aside more books to sit down on the bed and pick at the wrapping paper. Tape, such a foul, hindering nemesis. Enzan was hoping to avoid that part of the conversation, but maybe it was better to get it done and over with.

"Don't be sorry." He let that hang in the air for awhile, the tone abrupt and almost angry. Then he winced, aware that was too harsh.

"I hear that too much."

"Okay," May whispers to the floor (apparently, since it's what she's looking at), clutching one of the chair cushions. "I get it. I am a pity-free person, this is a pity-free zone."

The awkward just hangs out there for a few more moments, until May gets over herself long enough to get up and start assisting with the paper, if that's okay with Enzan.
